Because of its negative ionic charge, it attracts pollutants, toxins, and bacteria (all positively charged) trapping them so they call be pulled right out of the skin. It removes excess oils and deeply cleanses pores. It then deposits specific minerals where they are needed in the skin, which explains why it literally strengthens the skin’s various matrices. It is the most anti-bacterial and drying of the clays used for facials, so it is most often used for oily or acne-prone skin.
